CIA Report on Possible Developments in Palestine Following Partition Vote

(February 28, 1948)

This CIA report reviews the activities in Palestine following the UN vote in favor of partition and concludes the plan cannot be implemented. The Agency concludes there are three alternatives, a UN effort to set up a Jewish state by force, the UN washing its hands of the Palestine issue or UN reconsideration of partition. Each of these is viewed as problematic. The report goes on to review the positions of the different parties and the impact of possible action on American interests.
