Yaakov "Yashka" Eliav
(1917 - 1985)
Born in Russia in 1917 and immigrated to Eretz Israel
with his parents in 1925.
Joined the Irgun at a young age, and in 1938 was in
charge of the Irgun's operations in Jerusalem. Took part in the Irgun
Commander Course in Poland, organized and directed by the Polish Army.
Returned to Eretz Israel after the publication of the
British "White
Paper", and took part in the operations against British targets in
Jerusalem.
During the split in the Irgun (in
1940) he sided with Avraham Stern (Yair) and was one of the founders of Lehi.
