Emanuel Ax
(1949 - )
Emanuel Ax was born in Lvov, Poland,
and moved with his family to Winnipeg, Canada,
when he was just a child.
He attended the Juilliard
School of Fine Arts and received a scholarship
there because of his magnificent piano talent.
In 1974, Ax won the first
Arthur Rubenstein International Piano Competition
in Tel Aviv. Subsequently, Emanuel Ax received
the Avery Fisher prize and two Grammys awards.
In 2004, Ax participated
in the making of a BBC Holocaust film
which won an International Emmy in 2005.
In 2005 and 2006, Ax sat
in as a pianist in residence for the Berlin
Philharmonic Orchestra.
Emanuel Ax has toured and
continues to play all over the world. He
lives in New York with his wife, Yoko Nozaki
(also a pianist) and his two children, Joseph
and Sarah.
