Ben Erdreich

Ben Erdreich is a former United States Congressman from Alabama.
Erdreich (born December 9, 1938) was born
in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Jefferson County public
schools. He received his B.A. from Yale University in 1960 and his J.D. from the University of Alabama School
of Law in 1963, where he also worked as editor-in-chief of the Alabama Law Review.
From 1963 to 1965, Erdreich served as a first lieutenant in the United States Army.
In 1970, he was first elected to the Alabama
House of Representatives. In 1974, he was elected as one of the three Jefferson
County commissioners, a post to which he was reelected in 1978.
From 1983 to 1993, Erdreich was elected five times and served as a Democrat
in the U.S. House of Representatives.
