From Haven to Home: Many Peoples, One Language

The WPA Adult Education program of the 1930s and 40s teamed with New York City's Board of Education to sponsor free English classes to help parents “learn to speak, read, and write the language of your children.” In addition, naturalization classes and “special classes for educated foreign born” are advertised on this Yiddish and English poster.
