MASHAV: Child Development Program in Ethiopia

The Embassy of the State of Israel and Save the Children Norway Ethiopia (SCNE) signed a three-year cooperation agreement March 15, 2004, aimed at establishing a joint program to support child development activities in Ethiopia.   

The agreement was signed by H. E Ambassador Doron Grossman, Ambassador of Israel to Ethiopia, and Mr. Bjorn Hagen, Resident Representative of SCNE.

During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Grossman asserted the agreement is part of an on-going and growing collaboration with SCNE and symbolizes Israeli’s commitment to assist Ethiopia in various fields, through its international cooperation agency MASHAV.  

The agreement will enable MASHAV and SCNE to strengthen the capacity of Ethiopian organizations, which deal with child development issues, and which according to the agreement would benefit from the training programs to be provided in Ethiopia, at the Golda Meir Mount Carmel International Training Center and other training centers in Israel.

According to the agreement, MASHAV will also assist in bringing Israeli experts both for “on the spot training” and short-term consultancies that will take place in Ethiopia as well as facilitate and coordinate the reception of Ethiopian trainees for international and tailor-made programs in Israel.  

SCNE identified Israel as one of the countries having experts that can facilitate training courses on handling this theme with great competence. Mr. Hagen said during the ceremony that capacity building of local partners, both governmental and NGOs is an important part of the way SCNE is working both in Ethiopia and other countries.

Mr. Hagen further noted SCNE is happy to cooperate with MASHAV in this respect, which has the same strategy in developing countries.
