The Anti-Jewish Boycott: Schacht Warns Against Damage to Jewish Places of Business

(June 5, 1935)

Berlin, June 5, 1935
Immediate

The Reich and Prussian
Minister of Economics
To: The Minister-President
of Bavaria

I have seen from the daily papers that the leaders of the "Terror Gangs" who have caused an impermissible boycott of Jewish stores in the past weeks have been arrested. In view of the anxiety caused by these incidents and by the approaching Whitsun holiday business I will take this opportunity to request you to ensure that any further breaches of the law will be dealt with most severely, and that Whitsun sales can proceed without friction in the non-Aryan stores as well [as in others]....

Hjalmar Schacht

President of the Reichsbank
