Timothée Chalamet was born on December 27, 1995, in New York City. He was raised in Manhattan by his mother, a Jewish former Broadway dancer and actress, and his French father. He has an older sister, Pauline, who is also an actress.
Chalamet began acting at a young age, and attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City. Throughout his time in high school, Chalamet landed minor acting roles in various shows and off-broadway productions. He later enrolled in college, first going to Columbia University in New York City and then New York University, but he eventually left to concentrate on his acting career.
Chalamet's rise to fame occurred in 2017 when he played a leading role as a gay Jewish teenager in Call Me by Your Name, a film based on a novel written by Jewish author André Aciman. He became the youngest actor in 80 years to earn an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He also starred in the 2021 film “Dune,” which received critical acclaim and further catapulted him into fame.
Chalamet is set to star in and produce a new film about Marty Reisman, a Jewish table tennis legend.
