A. Toma

TOMA, A. (originally Moscovici; 1875–1954), Romanian poet. Toma contributed to Romania's socialist and Jewish press and one of his poems, "Sion" ("Zion"), was often recited at Zionist gatherings. His verse collections include Poezii (1926, 19302) and Cîntul vietii (1950); a volume of children's poems, Piuici si fratii lui mici ("Piuici and his Little Brothers"), also appeared in English (1956). A member of the Romanian Academy after World War II, he was a prolific translator and gained many awards.
