Yael German

(1947 - )

Yael German is an Israeli politician who was a longtime mayor of Herzliya, serving from 1988 to 2013. During her time as mayor she was part of the Meretz party but has since joined Yesh Atid to become a member of the thirty-third Knesset as its Minister of Health.

German was born in Haifa and earned a bachelor's degree in history at Tel Aviv University. She has lived in Herzliya since 1979 and is married with two children. During her time as mayor, she fought against the construction of more cellular antennas in the city and succeeded with the passing of the "Cellular Antenna Act."
