Operation Protective Edge: The Shuja'iyah District

The Shuja'iya District, Gaza City

Shuja'iya roughly translates from Arabic to "courage", and the neighborhood of Shuja'iya is one of the oldest in Gaza. Located East of the center of the city, it is a large commercial hub for the area and is home to many ancient mosques and fantastic pieces of architecure. During Operation Protective Edge Hamas operatives have turned the historic and beautiful neighborhood of Shuja'iya into a weapons cache and battleground. Hamas fired hundreds of rockets towards Israel from Shuja'iya during Operation Protective Edge and the IDF has disclosed aerial photographs depicting these firing locations, as well as locations of weapons caches, combatant posts, bunkers, and homes of Hamas operatives.

The map on the left is the primary aerial map detailing these Hamas operation locations.  The map on the right is a map of the places that the IDF targetted.
