Shemuel Dayan
(1891 - 1968)
Shemuel Dayan was the father of Moshe
Dayan, Shemuel was born in Zhashkov, Ukraine, and settled in Israel
in 1908. He was a founding member of Deganyah Aleph, Deganyah Bet and
Moshav Nahalal. He represented the moshav movement in Yishuv institutions,
the Histadrut and at
various Zionist Congresses. Dayan served in the first three sessions
of the Knesset. Shemuel is the founder of the Dayan political dynasty,
the only family to have three generations serve in the Knesset: Shmuel
Dayan, his son Moshe Dayan and his granddaughter, Yael Dayan.
