Maps of the Middle East, BCE: The Assyrian Empire under Sargon II

Salmaneser V besieged Samaria but the final conquest of the city was achieved by Sargon II, that deported about 30,000 Israelites of the Tribes of Efrayim and Menasheh to the cities of Media, besides the previous resettlement areas: “In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Ashur took Shomron, and carried Israel away to Ashur, and placed them in Chalach, and on the Chavor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Madai” (2Kings 17:6).
